We drink poetry....

We drink poetry….

Fine single malt whisky and dynamic, star-power poets at a classic Hollywood lounge?

Yes, please.

Celebrate the power of whisky and words at the Whisky & Poetry Salon’s Two Year Anniversary on WEDNESDAY, Nov 19 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Rat Pack-retro-fabulous 3 Clubs Lounge in Hollywood!

The celebration honors WritLargePress’s recent, epic DTLAB #90for90 literary pop-up at Union Station with a trio of amazing Writ Large Press
poets: Melora Walters,  Mike “thePoet” Sonksen, and a rare appearance by the allegedly retired Chiwan Choi.

Melora Walters may or may not read poetry this way. (Melora Walters's "homage to Pina Bausch" by Christopher-Calvin Pollard)

Not as rare as Yeti but pretty close.

Riding the wave of pre-Whisky Fest excitement, the cheeky and erudite single malt specialist Johnnie “the Scot” Mundell will be in top form dispensing fine single malt Scotch and expert whisky education.

Finally, you will DEFINITELY want to come early/stay late to investigate the Three Clubs cocktail menu revamped by Michael J. Neff, one of the most innovative pioneers of the craft cocktail movement.

The Whisky & Poetry Traveling Salon welcomes you to Traxx Bar at Union Station.

Union Station remains one of  L.A.’s most beautiful iconic destinations. (Remember Chinatown?)

Now there’s a reason to visit besides the Metro.

On Thursday, August 21, the bimonthly Whisky & Poetry Salon, which trades guests whisky for words in a 1920’s DTLA loft, debuts their occasional, off-site pop-up —  the Whisky & Poetry Traveling Salon — at the gorgeous Art Deco Traxx Bar in Union Station.

As a signature element of the Traveling Salon, cheeky and erudite whisky ambassador Johnnie “the Scot” Mundell will pour four, single malt Scotch whiskies that have been specially paired with the work of four, exciting poets: Annelyse Gelman, Suzanne Lummis, Alyesha Wise and Gail Wronsky.

Guests will sample the whiskies over the course of  the evening.  In between the poets’ rounds, Johnnie will advise on the finer points of sipping and savoring the “water of life”.

Come savor whisky and words at the Whisky & Poetry Traveling Salon.

Go Go’ers, it’s good to be an Angeleno.

Whisky & Poetry salonDistill my beating heart….

The Whisky & Poetry Salon  is an intimate evening of decadent debauchery: Scotland’s finest single malt whiskies and the communal love of all things poetic….

We can’t wait to trade you whisky for your words….

Bring a poem, your own or someone else’s, and read it in a candle-lit circle of fellow aficionados in the 1920’s B Black Penthouse with its dramatic cityscape views.

You’ll climb six floors to get there but a stop for single malt at the 3rd floor Whisky Way Station will make it worth the climb.  Light bites and more whisky await you in the penthouse!

Our cheeky Spirits Ambassador Johnnie “the Scot” Mundell pours fine single malt Scotch throughout the evening and offers erudite whisky education in between the reading of poems.

Our wonderful feature, noir poet Cece Peri, is the evening’s grand finale! (And there are rumors of an exciting special guest!)

Need poetic inspiration?  Here’s a Scottish drinking poem:

Drink today and drown all sorrow
You may perhaps not be here tomorrow
Best while you have it, use your breath
There is no drinking after death.
