The Weekend Go Go: Odd Nights, L.A. Beer Week Kick-Off, Pasadena Chalk Festival

Odd Nights 2017

The weekend may be hot but these events are oh-so-cool….

ODD NIGHTS AT THE AUTRY — This FREE event on the Autry grounds — free parking as well, including horses (no joke) — has everything you want to while away a balmy summer’s eve: all night musical acts, food trucks, kid events, cool vendors (think Monkeyhouse Society’s MANCAVE for Dad-centric gifts) and a FULL BAR (woohoo!) BONUS: select galleries in the Autry will be open from 6 – 9pm.  Why: Finishing your Dad/grad/wedding gift shopping with a beer in one hand and Wise BBQ in the other.

LABW 2016

LA. BEER WEEK KICKOFF FEST — The 8th year of everybody’s favorite week launches tomorrow afternoon at Los Angeles Center Studios with a line-up of 80+ craft breweries: a great mix of local and special visiting guests.  Sample 200+ pours of suds from a majority of Los Angeles Brewer’s Guild members as well as rarely-seen-in-L.A. visitors from the length and breadth of the Golden State.  All funds benefit the L.A. Brewer’s Guild as well as Food Forward.  Want to continue the party (and have lots of rideshare credit and/or a designated driver?)  Head to the Saturday night LABW Pizza After-Party at El Segundo Brewing Company for FREE ‘za and pay as you go IPA then peruse the list of LABW events including tap takeovers, beer-and-food pairing dinners, seminars, art exhibitions, and much more.  Why:  Hot day + cold beer = heaven.

Pasadena Chalk Festival

PASADENA CHALK FESTIVAL – Father’s Day weekend wouldn’t be the same without the FREE 24th Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival, which blends family time, a street party, and   two days of jaw-dropping sidewalk artistry.  Special sections at the Paseo Colorado include Animation Alley (Lower Theater Court) and the Chalk of Fame, which focuses on film-centric  art (Upper Theater).  Kid’s Chalkland offers 11th hour opportunities to make Dad’s Day cards plus face painting — presumably not with chalk — for aspiring, young artists. The 17th Annual Pasadena Police Classic Car Show  (on Sunday only) includes food booths and an auction benefiting the Pasadena PAL Program, Peace Over Violence Organization and The Pasadena Police Explorer Post.  Why: The opportunity to gawk at art and bid on a helicopter ride for the ultimate Dad’s Day gift!
