Hurray for rain!
Hurray for a new year of fun!
Hurray for Go Go galoshes!
Smokin’ hot typewriters????
Presented by the Melrose Poetry Bureau and Bootleg Theater, the Quickdraw Poetry Cabaret kicks off the first real weekend of 2016.
We were all post-holiday comatose so last weekend doesn’t count.
Starting Friday, you’ll have four opportunities over two weekends to imbibe beer and wine and experience Quickdraw Poetry Cabaret’s always new and unique shows combining the high wire tension of improv, the challenge of creativity and manual dexterity under pressure, and the wild card of audience participation to create on-the-spot feats of literary legerdemain.
All this plus tassel twirling and a typewriter band.
Could there be a better way to launch a 2016 of fun?
QUICKDRAW POETRY CABARET — Fri, Jan 8 & Sat, Jan 9/Fri, Jan 15 & Sun, Jan 16; 7:30pm. All ages/$15 — Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd, LA 90057. Tix & more info HERE.
Sure, it’s an unseasonably cold L.A. winter. (Gracias, El Nino!)
To put things in perspective, grab tix to the 17th Annual Scandinavian Film Fest: a celebration of all things Nordic.
The 17th SFFLA takes place over four days and two weekends and kicks off Saturday with an Opening Gala and Ceremonies, including a screening of Oscar-nominated Finnish director Klaus Haro’s The Fencer. The fest presents 19 films — documentaries, animation, shorts and features — from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden PLUS a mini Baltic Block Party with submissions from Estonia and Latvia.
SFFLA highlights include: legendary Swedish director Roy Andersson’s darkly comic, much-ballyhooed A Pigeon Sat On A Branch Contemplating Existence; Danish Oscar submission A War by Tobias Lindholm; Moomins on the Riviera, a Finnish-French animated film based on the beloved, Swedish, Moomin comic strips; and a special screening of the re-mastered classic Intermezzo to celebrate Ingrid Bergman’s 100th birthday.
In anticipation of post-screening cravings, locate sources of pickled herring now.
