You’ve been blithely celebrating fall: munching on candy apples, glugging Oktoberfest beer and frolicking in
leaves, sprinklers…er, just frolicking! To celebrate fall!
But now it’s time to get serious.
Halloween is just two weeks away.
Put on your dangly eyeballs and glitter paint.
Go forth and raise hell.
Whether you need costume inspiration or just want to fully immerse yourself in all that Halloween has to offer (wink, wink), head to Fais Do Do this Friday night and watch the Famous Monstergirls of Burlesque walk the fine line between fright and delight.
Expect risqué routines capable of raising the undead.
This month, Peepshow Menagerie’s immersive, one-night-only, 18+ show is a monster mash-up of Playboy After Dark and the cinematic era when creatures ruled the earth.
Fingers crossed for a Godzilla/Playboy Bunny that stomps Tokyo.
Co-producer Chris Beyond hosts the evening, which includes comedy and music from Mr. Snapper and Mr. Buddy and “spooky games and prizes” in addition to the artistes de bump et grind.
They’ll put a spell on you. Don’t resist.
THE MONSTERGIRLS OF BURLESQUE — Fri, Oct 16 @ 9pm. $12/18+ — Fais Do Do, 5253 W Adams Blvd, L.A. 90016 Tix and more info HERE.
All By Myself
All good (scary) things must come to an end.
The bad news is that ALONE: An Existential Haunting will soon be ending its innovative but unnerving series of art show-meets-rainbow-meets-creep show hauntings.
The very good news is that Absorption, the fourth and grand finale of Alone’s light-themed but psychologically dark experience is being unveiled this Saturday: just in time to leave you thoroughly stirred and shaken for All Hallow’s Eve.
The twists: 1) as the name implies, you go through the 45 minute, site-specific experience solo and 2) you are warned in advance that you may be “aggressively touched and moved or tenderly embraced or be utterly left displaced and alone.”
Are the hairs on your neck rising already?
If not, they will.
ALONE: ABSORPTION — Sat, Oct 17-18, 21-25 and 28 – Sun, Nov 1; various times. $50-75/18+ — Undisclosed, central Los Angeles area near public transportation; ticket buyers will receive an email one day prior to their ticketed date with info & location details. Tix and more info HERE.
Use Your Inside/Outside Voice
When you think about it, Dr. Jekyll was the ultimate Halloween costume for Mr. Hyde.
This Sunday, explore the “commingled good and evil” of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ultimate monster within at JEKYLL AND HYDE: the October iteration of A Rrose in a Prose Literary Salon at Stories Books and Cafe.
Co-hosts Art Currim and DM Collins will wrangle the clutch of fantastic and unruly writers of all persuasions. In a nod to the theme, at least some of the literary artists will change up their performance styles so expect the unexpected.
Hopefully, no one’s cranky inner child will pour out of their mid-section like smoke. (See photo, above left._
