Go Go’ers, it’s one of those weekends.
Everything is happening.
Read on and you’ll be happening too.
Hear Them in Person
They’ve made you laugh via the ether-webs.
Tonight, let the in-person laughter begin at the Los Angeles Podcast Festival.
The three-day fest features 35+ live podcasts from funny people you know and love including The Smartest Man in the World (a.k.a. Greg Proops), Girl on Guy with Aisha Tyler, Jackie Kashian’s The Dork Forest, Cinefamily staple Doug Benson’s Doug Loves Moves, and recently-ended The Thrilling Adventure Hour.
Add in panels, happy hours, preview screenings, pre- and post-parties, the ability to record your own podcast at the Podcast Lab (bring your own recording gear), a Saturday night Stand-up Podsmash and the option to live video-stream the whole shebang (except the Standup and the screenings) and you’ve got the ultimate geek-end.
Let the dork force be with you.

Cider House Jewels
Weather wise, it’s still summer in Los Angeles but head to the L.A. Cider Fest this Saturday and you’ll feel fall in the air.
Catering to all tastes and every level of cider familiarity, the fest at the historic Raleigh Studios is organized into three sections. And with a carefully curated selection of California craft breweries in the mix, the Cider Fest is the perfect “shoulder fest” spanning summer and fall.
The Tasting Pavilions feature ciders to appeal to every taste — or win over new ones — from “nude” ciders to iced meads to a beer and cider blender bar. Learn the alchemy behind the romance at the Meet the Makers Cider & Beer Row then head over to the Cider and Beer Galleries for thoughtfully paired food and drink menus featuring all the beers and ciders at the fest with vendors like BrewWings and Cooking Channel award winner Peaches Smokehouse and Southern Kitchen.
Choose from afternoon or evening sessions; each features VIP, General Admission and Designated Driver (DD) options.
The apple hasn’t been this tempting since the Garden of Eden.
L.A. CIDER FEST — Sat, Sept 19, 1pm (VIP)/2pm (GA) to 4:30 pm and 6pm (VIP)/7pm (GA) to 9:30pm. $85 (VIP)/$65 (GA)/$22.75 (DD) 21+ — Raleigh Studios, 5300 Melrose Ave, Hollywood 90038. Tix and more info HERE.
Run Away and Join the Circus
The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round is pretty splendid at night.
Count on the carousel to be downright magical this Saturday when the second iteration of the Poetry Circus comes to town.
Organized by poet and Ring Mistress Nicelle Davis, the FREE event features thirty poets — including Luis J. Rodriguez, Poet Laureate of Los Angeles — reciting their work to circus goers sitting on the roundabout’s bejeweled wooden horses.
Get there early to pick your favorite steed.
Poetic side acts include haiku balloons, a Poetry Well and a performance by Shakespeare’s Fools.
Kids can make their own instruments and then play them in the Poetry Parade led by baton-twirling poet and Grand Marshall Peggy Dobreer.
This Saturday, give poetry a whirl….
THE SECOND POETRY CIRCUS — Sat, Sept 19; 5:30 – 9:30pm. FREE/all ages — The Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round, 4730 Crystal Springs Drive, L.A. 90027. More info HERE.
