Music, comedy but no lobster, despite Hannibal Burress.

Music, comedy, Hannibal Burress, no lobster.

Dang.

August in L.A., ya’ll.

Gather up the sunblock,  the water bottles and your Ninja Turtles personal misting fan.

The weekend’s gonna be a scorcher but you’ll be cool.

Especially at the following….

All Fun, No Claws

Echo Park Rising is the festival version of your fave restaurant; you want to pass on the love to everyone you know while still keeping it small enough to stay real.

This weekend, prepare to share.

Now in its 5th year, the Echo Park music, art, comedy and local business bash is on the pop culture map as one of the year’s must-attend ‘hood celebrations.

Featuring 80+ acts, the fest officially kicks off Friday with Dengue Fever headlining on the Liberty Main Stage but don’t miss the Thursday pre-parties/acts at selected EP venues including the Eagle Rock Gospel Singers at the Echo and a pre-fest dance bash at the Echoplex.

Shake out those Thursday heebie jeebies.

Come Saturday, catch comedian Hannibal Buress (Broad City) in the afternoon and Hanni El Khatib in the evening: both on the Main Stage.  There are dog-friendly events at BlueCollar Working Dog and literary events at Stories  Books and Cafe.  Golden Road Brewing is providing Echo Park Rising Blonde to taps all over the neighborhood.

Echo Park Rising is FREE for all but a $25 Friday through Sunday VIP pass lets you skip lines and gets you into full-to-capacity venues via VIP viewing areas.

Consider being a baller.

Head Rush!

A clown collage.

A gigantic installation of Jerry Maguire VHS tapes..

Opera karaoke.

Experience all of the above and more beautiful madness this Saturday at Perform Chinatown 2015: RUSH HOUR.

Curated by Molly Jo Shea, performance artist and co-director of ESXLA, the FREE, all-day fest in Chinatown features the full spectrum of performance work in L.A.

And what a spectrum it is.

Taking its name and it’s “What is fake?” theme from the tourist trap sign on Foo Chow’s restaurant touting Jackie Chan’s movie Rush Hour, highlights of the fest include an art obstacle course, a monster mash costumed parade and an IRL/URL after-party music experience, Living Room, at Melody Lounge.

Worried you’ll be too wiped out to make it to the after-party?

Luckily for you, there’s a “boob mug relaxation-station”.

Natch.

Food, Glorious Food

If you have one quibble with Artisanal L.A., it’s this:

The gourmet DIY paradise isn’t open nearly often enough to satisfy your and Scooby’s cravings for pickled Bloody Mary veggies and gourmet pup-pastries.

Thankfully, the Artisan L.A. specialists in the hand-crafted and the delicious have heard your weak and famished foodie cries.

Put down the spatula and the jar of nearly-gone gooseberry jam and clear your Sunday for the Artisan L.A. + West Elm pop-up.

Taking place at the latter’s flagship store, the Artisanal L.A. team has curated a tasty — literally and figuratively — selection of goods and goodies to keep you stocked in edibles and giftables until the Fall show in October.

And while you certainly don’t need an inducement to browse brands like Birch and Bone, Knight Owl Coffee and Hello Sweetie Pies, the inclusion of special guest/L.A. Street Food Fest fave Corazon y Miel is a definite plus.

Especially since they’ll be serving yummy brunch cocktails from 10:00am – 11:00am before the store opens to the public.

Yes, that is your heart beating faster with joy….
