How’s your unofficial start of summer going so far?
Here are six ways to make it even better.
Fun with Tassels
Are heaving bosoms, lissome limbs, and splits in stilettos your kind of thing?
Ms. Go Go had a sneaking suspicion…
Clear your Friday night STAT and make tracks to Fais Do Do for the Burlypicks California Regional Competition where burlesque artistes and variety arts entertainers strut their stuff with the hopes of advancing to the International Burlypicks this September.
You’ll want to say you saw them when…
In addition to the belles and boys of the bump ‘n grind, the 20+ performers at Burlypicks include other vaudeville-inspired performers such as aerialists, ventriloquists and sideshow acts. All will be judged on talent, poise, polish, costume, and creativity.
A select few will be competing for Master of the Assels and Master of the Tassels.
You’ll want to say you saw them when….
2015 BURLYPICKS CALIFORNIA REGIONAL — Fri, May 29, 9pm. $12 – $20/18+ — Fais Do Do, 5253 W Adams Blvd, LA 90016. Tix and more info HERE.
Off the Beaten Path

All of the above and more are featured Los Angeles events on Atlas Obscura Day 2015.
A.k.a. “The Most Interesting Day in the World”.
The Atlas Obscura website lists the most interesting, offbeat and, yes, often obscure places on the planet. This Saturday, 150 events will take place in 39 states and 25 countries: all celebrating the strange, the curious and the awe-inspiring. The above (and more) ticketed events are taking place in and around L.A.
Who knew bunnies had their own museum?
All are welcome to attend the FREE (but RSVP required) end-of-day celebration at DTLA-adjacent Vista Hermosa Park: a 10.5-acre “hidden oasis” featuring walking trails, streams, meadows, oak savannahs, a nature-themed playground, native Mediterranean plants and amazing views.
Stick around to check out the night sky courtesy of the Burbank Sidewalk Astronomers.
Atlas Obscura on the moon, anyone?
