The Weekend Go Go: Late Night Cabaret, DTLA Picnic, Pop-Up Magazine

Late night is blowing up at ZJU...
Late night is blowing up at ZJU…

Music.  Performance art.  Food & drink outdoors.  Skimpy clothes.

No desert.

Think of this weekend as No-chella, Part 2.

Dinner First.  Then Bedlam.

All hell will break loose this Friday night in NoHo when ZJU Underground Theater debuts the bigger, badder, late(r)-night version of the Bedlam Explosivo XXL Variety Hour.

This time around, the “caburlesque” is amped up to late-night proportions and crammed into four-nights-only of TGIF fun.

Expect the usual madness from director Sebastian Munoz and the ZJU minions of mayhem. music and magic.

Also, operatic striptease.

Go Go’ers, when an event gets too big for its short-shorts britches, all you can do is super-size the stilettos to XXL.

BEDLAM EXPLOSIVO XXL VARIETY HOURFri, April 17 & 24 and May 1 & 8 @ 11pm.  $15 — ZJU Theatre Group, 4850 Lankershim Blvd., NoHo 91601  For Reservations, call: 818.202.4120.  For tix and more info, go HERE.

Slather your fresh-baked bread with fresh-churned butter!  From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., burn fat to make fat at Pop Soda‘s #FeeltheChurn butter aerobics.

It’s the perfect time to debut your all-yellow aerobics ensemble

Showcase your spread — the sandwich-topping kind — for a chance to win a  Hollywood Bowl Picnic Survival Kit (i.e. performance tix and picnic basket) as well as other cool prizes.

If your picnic style is point-and-pay, grub up at Grand Central Market  or the several on-site food trucks then enjoy MOTOWN ON MONDAYS DJs (with special guest JEREMY SOLE of KCRW) and award-winning Asian-American improv group Cold Tofu.

It’s the best picnic pick under the sun.

More than a Magazine

For a one-stop, one-night-only cultural experience, head to Pop-Up Magazine this Sunday at the Theatre at Ace Hotel for storytelling, documentary films, photography, illustration, and radio live on stage and brought to you by California Sunday Magazine.

You’ll want to snap up tix ASAP; as a testament to the popularity of the series, both of this weekend’s San Francisco shows sold out in record time.

Think you can check out a digital version later?  Think again.

The transient nature of the event — presenters include writers, radio producers, filmmakers, photographers, and artists — is part of the point; nothing will be filmed and nothing will be recorded.

This Sunday…kick it old school with a real live magazine.

POP-UP MAGAZINESun, April 19, 7:30-9:30pm. $35Theatre at the Ace Hotel, 929 S Broadway, DTLA 90015.  For tix and more info, go HERE.
