Think of this weekend as an oasis of calm before the Valentine Week storm.
Still, there’s plenty of fun to look forward to:
Actually, maybe not so calm after all….
What’s Old Is New Again
What’s better than the thrice-a-year Vintage Fashion Expo?
The original Vintage Fashion Expo — your one-shop stop for retro fashion — is teaming up with Rin Tanaka and Inspiration for an all-vintage weekend.
Inspiration launches the collaborative event today at noon with their 6th annual preview. Browse American vintage apparel from the 1900s to the 1980s as well as surf and skate exhibitors, hot-rods, antiques, records and audio equipment.
Vintage Fashion Expo opens its doors on Saturday with 1880’s to 1990’s fashion, jewelry and accessories for women and men. Donate a new or gently used office-appropriate purse to Expo partner Dress for Success and get $5 off your Expo ticket.
In all, 150 vintage dealers will be exhibiting a range of clothing, accessories, and heritage lifestyle items from the rare to the best of designer, craftsman and period pieces.
Saturday’s double-the-fun shop-a-thon ends with Inspiration’s FREE After-party at sponsor RRL on Melrose.
Just the place to show off your new decades-past designer duds.
Vintage Fashion Expo continues solo on Sunday for your last-minute vintage Valentine’s needs.
A strand of pearls + a pair of black satin elbow length gloves = perfect Valentine’s Day.

Chocolate. Tequila. Amor.
Chocolate and tequila may sound like an odd combination but think of the luscious, chocolate-infused Mexican sauce known as mole.
Your $25 ticket gets you a pairing of 5-6 dark chocolates and three Patron tequilas including Incendio Chile Chocolate Liqueur. Plus, a swag bag.
You’ll also be able get a jump on your Cupid Day chocolate buying. ChocoVivo stone grinds their whole bean chocolate with pure cane sugar; the only other ingredients they use are organic fruits and nuts from local farmers’ markets.
So much better than your original Hail Mary plan:
A bag of “I wuv u” glitter M&M’s.
PATRON TEQUILA & CHOCOLATE PAIRING – Fri, Feb 6; 5-9pm. $25; 21+ — ChocoVivo, 12469 West Washington Blvd, LA 90066; a portion of your purchase benefits the National Museum of Animals & Society. For tix and more info, go HERE.
Music for the Great Emancipator
In anticipation of Presidents Day weekend, celebrate Honest Abe in Pasadena this Sunday with Liberty/Conceived: Muse/Ique‘s first Uncorked concert of the year.
Conductor Rachael Worby, Artistic Director of the traveling orchestral salon, traces Lincoln’s love of music and art with the help of special guest narrator Courtney B. Vance (Hunt for Red October, Law and Order: Criminal Intent).
The DkF gospel vocal ensemble will join Muse/Ique for the performance of “deep American favorites” such as Battle Hymn of the Republic, Go Down Moses, and I Wish I Was in Dixie’s Land. The afternoon’s finale will be composer Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, conducted by Maestra Worby.
In order to reach a wide and diverse audience, events in Muse/Ique’s Uncorked series pop up at iconic but non-traditional venues. For their inaugural 2015 performance, Muse/Ique was invited to be part of the grand re-opening ceremony of Pasadena Civic Exhibit Hall: a former ballroom-turned-ice rink that has been reclaimed with a $900,000 renovation.
Muse/Ique members and ticket holders will have dibs on the reserved preferred seating but the public is invited to attend with unreserved seating or standing around the perimeter of the ballroom.
Leave your roller skates at home.
MUSE/IQUE’S UNCORKED: LIBERTY/CONCEIVED — Sun, Feb 8; 6pm ribbon-cutting ceremony, 6:30pm mingling, 7pm concert. $50 reserved seating; FREE unreserved seating — Pasadena Civic Exhibit Hall, 300 E Green Street, Pasadena 91101. For tix & more info, go HERE.
