Whether it’s part of a secret cabal master plan (probably!) or just a happy coincidence (maybe), several of L.A.’s best events this weekend are FREE!
Think of it as cultural good karma.
A delirious dream for bibliophiles, Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair offers three days (daze?) of artists’ books, art catalogs, monographs, periodicals, and zines from 250+ international presses, booksellers, antiquarians, artists, and independent publishers at or near the Geffen Contemporary.
That’s 80+ art book slingers a day!
Tonight’s opening night preview party, with music by Prince Rama and No Age, is $10 but you get Edie Fake’s limited edition of Black Lives Matter ticket while supplies last. The three-day book fair, however, which starts Friday and runs through Sunday, is FREE.
You’ll definitely want to check out the special events programming. On Friday, head to the nearby Ace Hotel for the 21+ launch party celebrating L.A.-based artist and graphic designer Brian Roettinger’s Issue 25 for THE THING Quarterly.
Yay for DJs and drinkies!
Register to create a book with Book Machine on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, bring your fave artist’s book to the Artists Books & Cookies: Celebrating LA event (cookies by Sqirl) and get a FREE FourYourArt Guide to Los Angeles featuring personal and satirical tours by the seven artists who created the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing’s LA Project.
And if you happen to use the FYA Guide to Los Angles to confound out-of-town visitors, well… Ms. Go Go won’t tell.

This Saturday, 20 Los Angeles-area institutions of art, cultural heritage, natural history and science will be free to the public…with a couple (i.The Museum of Tolerance, Zimmer Children’s Museum) gratis on Sunday.
In addition to its fantastic regular exhibitions,The Museum of Latin American Art pursues its commitment to cross-cultural dialogue on Saturday.
