Praised by music writer and producer T-Bone Burnett as “one of the most engaging and entertaining evenings of music you can hear in Los Angeles,” Angel City Chorale has cross-generational-and-genre appeal with a Christmas and Chanukah cornucopia of carols, classics, jazz, folk and gospel/R&B.
Plus, satisfy your jingle bells jones with an audience participation singalong!
Founded by artistic director/conductor Sue Fink, the 150+ member, multi-cultural Angel City Chorale performed prominently on Christopher Tin’s 2014 album, The Drop That Contained the Sea, which is officially on the first-round ballot for The 57th Annual Grammy Awards. ACC tours extensively and has worked with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Luther Vandross.
Bonus! Enjoy a dessert reception after each show.
Think of it as the cherry on top of your holiday sundae.
ANGEL CITY CHORALE’S SEASON OF WONDER — Sat, Dec 6 & Sun, Dec 7 @ 7pm. $30 in advance and $35 at the door; discounts for children (ages 5-12) & seniors — Wilshire United Methodist Church, 4350 Wilshire Blvd, LA 90010. For advance tix & more info, go HERE.
It’s a rare musical group that can make a splash at both Bonnaroo and on Prairie Home Companion but Ukrainian quartet DakhaBrakha‘s mix of punk, folk, and world music has won fans from hipsters to heartlanders.
“DakhaBrakha” means “give/take” in the old Ukrainian language and is an apt description of the group, which reinvents Ukraine’s village-centric cultural heritage with a contemporary spin and theatrical flair.
This Sunday, attend a concert at the intimate Theatre Raymond Kabbaz by the group whose performance at Bonnaroo was hailed as “Best Break Out” by Rolling Stone.
You, however, can just shout “Браво!” (“Bravo!)
DAKHABRAKHA – Sun, Dec 7 @ 7:30pm. $35/$25 (student) — Theatre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W Pico Blvd, LA 90064. For tix and more info, go HERE.
***Send a comment detailing which SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7th show you want to see; first response for each show gets the tix!
