Is Ms. Go Go happy the weekend’s here?
“Ecstatic” might be the better word.
Here’s how to squeeze every scrap of fun from the best two days of your week….
Good Food’s Good Eats
Has it been a while since you ventured to Grand Central Market, Go Go’ers?
Time to change that tonight.
KCRW’s Good Food’s Night Out with Good Food’s Evan Kleiman is eating at and exploring the DTLA food court, which is about to go from iconic to sonic after Bon Appetit just included the 97-year-old market on its Hot 10 list.
If can’t stand the heat, get into these kitchens.
Satisfy your competitive jones with cornhole toss, ping pong, board games and cards while KCRW DJ Marion Hodges spins. Fortify yourself for victory with special menu items from select stalls including: White Clam Pie from Olio GCM Wood-fired Pizza, Smoked Pork Belly with apple fennel slaw and Tabasco mayo from Horse Thief BBQ, and a TBA dish from Wexler’s Deli that is, sight (and taste) unseen, a guaranteed musn’t-miss.
It’s the effortless way to easy-breezy your summer.
KCRW’S GOOD FOOD’S NIGHT OUT AT GRAND CENTRAL MARKET — Fri, August 22, 7 – 10 p.m. Free entry — Grand Central Market, 317 S Broadway, Los Angeles, (213) 624-2378 More info HERE.
It’s the best kind of 18th b-day party. (i.e. you can legally drink.)
In fact, Sacred Fools Theater offers racy reassurance in the very title of the bash to launch their 18th season. Barely Legal debaucheries include — but are definitely not limited to — “Toss the Handcuff” (Luckily, you’re a pro.), “Jail your Friends” (You know you have a list…), and “Love Letters and Apologies” (Clearly, a necessary addendum to the other two.)
Of course, there are cocktails.
You’re encouraged to dress in your outrageous best. Just make sure it’s still possible to give the “Wheel of Destiny” a hearty spin. You don’t want your future dictated by a too-tight corset.
Your own or someone else’s….
BARELY LEGAL — Sat, August 23, 7pm – 2am. $25 — Sacred Fools Theater, 660 Heliotrope Dr, LA 90004. For tix and more info, go HERE.

Jazz Church
The late Billy Higgins is not only the most recorded jazz drummer of all time, he’s a co-founder with Kamau Daaood (of the Watts Writers Workshop) of The World Stage: a beloved fixture of music, art and culture in Leimert Park. Natch, Higgins is the obvious choice to anchor the celebration of the cultural center’s 25th anniversary at Ford Theaters this Sunday.
Think of it as Sunday supper “jazz church”.
In addition to spoken word performances by Wood and Jaha Zainabu, the evening features an all-star cast of jazz stars under the stars.
Groove to jazz vocalist Dwight Trible (also Executive Director of The World Stage), Carmen Lundy (winner, 2011 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album), Grammy winning composer/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Patrice Rushen, reed-man Bennie Maupin (Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock), and renowned flutist Hubert Laws.
Kamasi Washington (Snoop Dog and Raphael Saadiq) and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Big Boi, Rihanna) keep it current.
Go Go’ers, this silver anniversary celebration is pure gold….
THE WORLD STAGE 25TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION — Sun, August 24 @ 6p.m. $15 -$60 — Ford Theaters, 2580 Cahuenga Blvd EAST, Hollywood 90068. For more info & tix, go HERE.
