Go Go’ers, Christmas is coming.
Maybe you already knew that.
But maybe you didn’t know about the Christmas (kind-of) events happening this weekend?
Get ready for a whole different kind of Ho Ho Ho.
How to Postpone Christmas
Of course, Cinefamily is your go-to destination for all things wild, wacky and wonderful cinema. But starting TODAY, Saturday December 15 at 1:00 p.m., the Little Theater That Could is doing you a solid by giving you a philanthropic reason to avoid mall madness for 24 hours with the Cinefamily Fantastic Elastic 24 Hour Holiday Telethon.
You’d pay good money for that.
Kick off the event by watching Robert Downey Jr. open a time capsule, stay to watch Trailers from Hell (fa la la!), celebrate late night with Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and his mustache, wait ’til the midnight hour to hang with Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), deconstruct A Christmas Story with Pete & Pete creators Chris Viscardi and Will McRobb, and have lunch with Jason Schwartzman.
You’re preparing your thermos of spiked French Roast as we speak.
The above list of luminaries is just the tip of the icicle; stay for some, stay for all, or even watch the livestream presented by Cinespia. Moolah raised via the 24-hour cine-bash and month-long Kickstarter campaign will help fund an oh-so-necessary digital projection and theater sound upgrade.
Basically, you’re helping Cinefamily help YOU have an awesome 2013.
CINEFAMILY’s 2ND ANNUAL FANTASTIC ELASTIC 24 HOUR HOLIDAY TELETHON — Sat, Dec 15 @ 1pm through Sun, Dec 16 @ 1pm; various levels of fundraising — Cinefamily, 611 No Fairfax, LA 90036, 323.655-2510 http://www.cinefamily.org/telethon2012/
Christmas Cocktailing for a Cause
Choice 1: Dress up more than you want to and go to a holiday party with
blech-nog eggnog and never-big-enough hors d’oeuvres.
Choice 2: Get really merry for charity on the streets of Santa Monica with lots and lots of your new BFFs and fellow cocktail-loving philanthropists at the 4th Annual Santa Monica Pub Crawl .
$10 (in advance) and (suggested) holiday attire (ultra-warm fugly Xmas sweaters, anyone?) gets you access to over 25 bars and restaurants such as Rusty’s Surf Ranch, Finn McCool’s, and Ye Old King’s Head. The moolah goes to help the Westside Food Bank so you can feel all warm and fuzzy while you drink your Fuzzy Navel.
JK. You don’t have to drink a Fuzzy Navel.
Your sleigh for the night is the Big Blue Bus, which will offer hop-on-and-off rides all night long for $4 so you can be safe while you celebrate.
Yeah, baby. Jingle all the way.
4TH ANNUAL SANTA MONICA PUB CRAWL — Sat, Dec 15, 5pm. $10/21+ — YOU MUST PURCHASE TIX IN ADVANCE!!!! Go to http://www.santamonicapubcrawl.com/ for info.
Retro Ho Ho Ho
Charles Phoenix, pop culture humorist and creator of Xmas must-make projects such as the Cherpumple and Astro-Weenie Christmas Tree, will bring the best of his wicked wit and What Were They Thinking? mid-century slides to the Natural History Museum on Sunday, December 16th for a special show that delivers more odd than awe.
Expect really bad Santas and lots of red devil eyed children.
The King of Kitsch encourages guests to dress in festive holiday fashions but given Phoenix’s personal retro-meets-wacky style, you’ll have a lot of leeway.
Yes, the time has come to break out your gold elf shoes.
CHARLES PHOENIX RETRO HOLIDAY SHOW — Sun, Dec 16, 7-9pm, $29 — Natural History Museum, North American Mammals Hall, 900 Exposition Blvd, LA 90007
