The Weekend Go Go: Eagle Rock Comedy Fest, Pancakes & Booze, Lucky Art Show,

Why did the chicken cross the Eagle Rock?
Why did the chicken cross the Eagle Rock?

Oh.  Hey there, December…and all that you are:

1. Best month of the year for candle sales.

2. Last month of 2o12.

3. Last month of forever (TBD).

Yeah, there’s some other stuff happening too….  Fa la la may or may not be involved.

Either way, you’re prepared.

Laffs in Mayberry

It’s the start of the Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.  Already, you’re feeling broke and stressed.  (Damn you, Black Friday and Cyber Monday….)  The antidote for both?  The 3rd Annual Eagle Rock Comedy Festival: three nights of FREE comedy at yum eateries all over Eagle Rock: the Mayberry of L.A.

Don’t expect Opie.

Do expect 175 comedians and sketch groups to tickle your funny bone Thursday, December 6th through Saturday, December 8th at half a dozen venues including Colombo’s Italian Steakhouse (Home of super-strong martinis; yeah, baby), Dave’s Chillin’ ‘n Grillin’ (hipster fave sandwich spot); and The Capri (featured on Kitchen Nightmare and the only place in Southern California to get La Montanera-style pizza).

You’ll want to keep your strength up to laff it up.

The fest, produced by 25 year comedy veteran Bobbie Oliver and Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank, has all kinds of fun  — and FREE — extras open to the public: a comedy video shorts program,  an improv jam, a live podcast, stand-up and improv workshops, a meditation workshop, open mics,  and a post-festival Wrap Party Show at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank on Sunday, December 9th.

And check out this great pre-festival bonus: a Women in Comedy Roundtable (WIC), which features a heavyweight lineup of female producers, writers, talent managers, and talent including Kelly Carlin (Host of Waking from the America Dream; also, George’s kid) and Beth Lapides (UnCabaret).

Did Ms. Go Go mention that it’s free, all free?  Go Go’ers, you can’t afford not to go….

Flapjacks, Firewater, Painted Flesh and Art

Breakfast.  Your favorite meal of the day.

Liquor.  Your favorite beverage of the day.

Put them together with underground art and painted ladies and you’ve got the Pancakes and Booze Art Showa two-day, underground-but-open-to-the-public party that is a perfect example of an event that is way, way more than the sum of its parts.

Delicious, sexy, artsy, drunken parts.

In addition to the aforementioned quartet of culinary and other debauchery, there’s live music (a different line-up each night), a stencil art performance (not your kindergarten block letters stencils, yo), a photo booth (to document your painted body…or that of your special new friend), and an art battle.

Who knew the Mayan end-of-the-world include artists duking it out?

PANCAKES AND BOOZE 2102Fri, Dec 7 & Sat, Dec 8, 8pm-2am (both nights); $5/21+Lot 613, 613 Imperial St, L.A. 90021.

Hedge Your Bets for the Future

Speaking of the imminent possible apocalypse, you’re going to want to stockpile good vibes at Future Studio’s Good Luck Show.

Think of it as the karmic equivalent of canned peas.

Artists Nancy Uyemura, Tomo Isoyama, and Amy Inouye promise everyone will get a “lucky buzz” (sans alcohol…but avec Big Fun!) from the love, providence and prosperity they’ll pull in via their interpretation of lucky stars, horseshoes and other symbols of good fortune.

Don’t count on interpretations of lucky underwear.

Write your desperate wants and burning desires on scraps of paper and tie them to a good fortune stick sculpture, shore up serendipity with artist-vibed Lucky Charms (NOT the kind with marshmallows), and kick bad juju to the curb at the “Run Devil Run” station.

Go on…spit in the eye of the hurricane….

GOOD LUCK SHOWSat, Dec 8, 7-10pm (runs through 2/2/2103); FREE — Future Studio, 5558 N Figueroa St, LA (Highland Park) 90042.  323.254.4565

NOTE: Future Studio and the Good Luck Show are part of 2nd Saturday Gallery Night; other Ms. Go Go faves (and great you-know-what shopping destinations) include Leanna Lin’s Wonderland, Cactus Gallery, and Avenue 50 Studio
