OUT with the old, OUTRE with the new

Play with fire....

After all that holiday cheer, it’s inevitable that your thoughts might turn a bit…dark.  A little…dank.   Ever so slightly…grim.

Resolution #157 – welcome the weltschmerz, baby, and break on through to the other side.

Explore the outrageous and the bizarre at the following venues.

Cirque Berzerk is what you get when you cross whiskey with high wire, corpses with Carnivale, Satan with Cirque du Soleil.

The visit to the under-the-big-top underworld has moved from Los Angeles Historic Park to L.A. Live but don’t let that stop you.

Think of it as a glossier trip to Hell.

“Lizzie Borden took an axe, gave her mother forty….”  Well, we all know how that charming nursery ditty goes.

Writer/director Steven Sabel, Artistic Director of the Redlands Shakespeare Festival, does too but inThe Trial of Lizzie Borden at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theater, he goes beyond the rhyme to the reality and the legal reasoning of Massachusett’s most infamous murder  case.

Need more macabre?  Make it a theatrical double bill; stay for the final performance of  ZJU’s uber-creepyUrban Death, which goes on hiatus after a 10-month run.

Warning: no boundary of good taste left unbreached.

Interpretations of conspiracy, madness, pulp fiction and pop culture obsession are on display this weekend at La Luz de Jesus Gallery, with opening shows by artists Steven Daily, Tammi Otis, Charles Binger, and Howard Hallis respectively.

Don’t miss the world-premiere of The Picture of Everything, counter-culturist Hallis’s recently completed, 13-years-in-the-making collage of pop culture.

Think Timothy Leary meets Where’s Waldo? on steroids.
