Apparently, the femme filmmakers involved in the Viscera Women’s Film Festival and Bleedfest haven’t been paying attention as evidenced by the bloody stiletto footprints all over this weekend’s Saturday Bloody Sunday of gals, guts and gore. Saturday’s six-hour Viscera Festival at the Downtown Independent Theater features horror shorts by over two dozen artistes of atmosphere, aliens, and arterial flow, Q&A with several of the creators, and Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Brea Grant (Heroes, Halloween II) and Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever, How to Love Like a Hot Chick) as “inspirational guest presenters”. (NOT as inspiration to incite mayhem, Ms. Go Go is sure….)
Several of the filmmakers will be in attendance including Rue Morgue/AMC TV.com horror writer Stacie Ponder (Taste of Fear, Taste of Flesh), festival Founder/Director Shannon Lark (Brains, It’s My Birthday, Lipstick), Pretty-Scary.net founder and Viscera Festival co-director Heidi Martinuzzi (Wretched), and Festival award winners Devi Snively (I Spit on Eli Roth) and Ginetta Corelli (Mary Jane Go Round). Afraid to go home in the dark? Buck up with some liquid courage at the post-fest party on the rooftop of the Downtown Independent before you stumble home and fumble with the keys to your shadowy abode while an invisible audience screams “Behind you! Look behind you!”

Can’t get enough eyeshadow and entrails? Viscera’s Sunday “sister event” Bleedfest at Two Roads Theater showcases three dame-directed features including The Commune (directed by Kid Sis in Hollywood blogger/event organizer Elizabeth Fies), Dead Hooker in a Trunk (directed by Canadian identi-twins Jen and Silvia Soska), and the rare In Memorium by Amanda Gusack. Jenine Mayring contributes the short Simone and will be on hand for Q & A along with Fies and the Soskas. There’s a post-screening dinner at Aroma’s next door, not, as you might expect, across the street at Vitello’s, outside of which Robert Blake’s wife Bonnie Lee Bakley got whacked…er, murdered,
Just don’t sit in a dark car while your celebrity husband gets his gun from the restaurant.
